What are Yin and Yang?
How keeping Yin and Yang in balance is good for your health.

According to Chinese philosophy, Yin is the passive female principle of the universe and Yang is the active male principle of the universe. Yin literally means "shady place" and Yang means "sunny place".
(Mmm, passive female? active male? Ladies of course will disagree but this is chinese philosophy we're talking about! Just consider the descriptions as metaphors...)
In simple terms, they are two complementary forces that interact with one another and are part of one another, for example, life and death, or light and darkness; one cannot exist without the other.
As part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture
adheres to the ancient fundamental concepts of Yin and Yang,
life's energy known as Qi (pronounced Chee) and meridians
or channels that carry the energy produced by the interaction
of Yin and Yang.
Qi balances the opposing forces of Yin and Yang. When they are in harmony, Qi flows freely along the meridian
channels and you stay healthy, but when the Qi gets blocked,
you become ill. Acupuncture unblocks Qi and restores the
body's natural healthy balance.
A fuller explanation of YIN and YANG would be to look at how
the human body relies on every part to function successfully.
When the parts work harmoniously, the body is healthy. Yin
and Yang is a balanced separation of internal and external
organs which rely on each other working healthily together. Any
disruption to the flow of Qi, disturbs the balance of the two forces and leads inevitably to illness.
Getting to the Meridian Point!
Acupuncturists insert
needles
into specific points to stimulate, regulate, suppress or improve the flow of Qi.
- There are approximately 365 acupoints along the meridians where the insertion of fine needles can affect the flow of the invisible life energy – Qi.
- Of the 14 major meridians running through the body, 12 of them take their names from the main organ they pass through, ie. Small intestine, Bladder and Spleen etc.
During
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture,
improved muscle tone and Collagen production are stimulated using the very same principles of Yin and Yang, meridian lines and Qi.
Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is an old chinese technique which is becoming extremely fashionable in the West as a safe and relatively cheap alternative to cosmetic surgery.
Over 40 conditions have been recognised by The World Health Authority as treatable with Acupuncture. The main conditions being:
- pain relief
- muscular and skeletal problems
- arthritis
- anaesthesia
- depression
- anxiety
- headaches
- migraines and nausea
- addictions
- digestive problems
- asthma and hay fever
- high blood pressure
- women’s health
- promoting health
and
- well being
Modern technology and research methods have so far been unable to find a conclusive definition for meridians, Qi and Yin and Yang, but it is safe to state that the results achieved through acupuncture, without side effects or contra – indications, are proof in themselves.
Western medical practitioners treat the symptom whereas Chinese Medicine treats the cause, which is always believed to relate to an imbalance and lack of harmony – coming back to Yin and Yang.
