Build a website that will change your life...Hi. My name is Helen and I'm the webmaster "novice" who created this website.
Here's how and why I did it.
I am fit and healthy, I have a wonderful husband and I live on a gorgeous island in the Mediterranean (Cyprus) where we run
mountain bike holidays
for all abilities.
But as with any start-up business, it takes time to build your business, so we had a plan to have a secondary source of income...we just didn't quite know what that was going to be! I have to tell you that when I worked in the retail trade, the one thing I absolutely HATED, was anything to do with computers or IT (information technology). Typing letters and writing e-mails was fine so long as I didn't have to become involved with anything technical. Thank god we had a decent IT department to sort any problems out! So I guess it's pretty unbelievable that my second source of income should now be based around COMPUTERS and building websites! If I'm honest, I'm not really sure. I remember surfing the net for ideas on what we could do to generate a second source of income, finding lots of sites promising the earth for doing virtually nothing. This just sounds "too good to be true" I thought and, thankfully, I didn't sign up to any of the daft schemes as I now know them to be part of a growing trend of totally UNREAL "Get rich quick" websites that literally "con" you into joining them. You are basically playing a sophisticated gambling game with the only winner, the person at the top of the pyramid ie. the one promising all the riches! What all my surfing DID tell me, however, was that there was a HUGE number of people out there, making money out of the internet, either by selling you something or by making money out of all the advertising on the website. One day I came across a website that sounded different. The first thing I remember was reading about these amazing, inspiring stories of people who had started their own businesses, from scratch, by building their own websites. How on EARTH did they manage it I wondered? That must have been such a HUGE, time consuming thing to do. Then I read something on the site that struck a chord. People surf the web because they are looking for information THEY CAN TRUST. They don't want false promises or annoying adverts they have no interest in. They want to be "served" by someone with expert knowledge, someone who talks on THEIR wavelength and gives them what they want, every time. In the retail world, we call that a loyal customer and loyal customers keep coming back. WOW, now that's a different way of looking at IT!
I had suddenly iginited a small flame and, as I read further, I realised that there was a whole world out there on the internet which could enable you to make money: Build a website that offers great information or Content, build your customer base or Traffic and over-deliver on your information to keep them coming back on a regular basis. Once they know and love you, you can warm them up to ideas they might like to try, a bit like suggesting they try one of the latest fashion items because there IS a right way to wear it. Once you have Pre-sold to them they are ready and willing to buy from you because they TRUST you...and that leads to the Money. It's a simple Process but essential if you want to generate Traffic. (Imagine a shop window that looks tired and uninspiring with moody sullen staff - You are hardly likely to even go in let alone go back). I mulled it over for a few days, then re-read the information including a quick video guide and I asked a few questions. The flame suddenly became a passion and I signed up to start my own website! (well they said I could get my money back in 30 days if I didn't like it). I was totally amazed, and not a little bit overwhelmed, for the first couple of days, but once I realised there was a FANTASTIC network of support from a user Forum to a Central support system, I got stuck right in. Remember I HATE anything to do with IT but building your own website is SO much fun and I have all the tools at my fingertips so that I don't NEED to be a great designer or IT geek to understand it all. I won't pretend that it's not a lot of hard work, especially in the first few weeks when there is SO much to absorb. BUT, the RUSH you will feel when you build your first page and get your first cheque from the website is quite unbelievable. You will feel you have so much control over your own future.
I have certainly never looked back and I am learning something new EVERY day. This website was set up for a friend to share her amazing secrets of how to look younger through facial rejuvenation acupuncture and complementary anti aging creams. The site has already paid for itself and is now starting to generate real profit after a few short months, plus I have just started a second one, I have became so enthused by the whole thing! And on top of that we are helping so many people through the website with skin problems and other enquiries through our feedback pages, it really feels like job satisfaction, despite all the hard work.
