Read our review of Chi An Kuei's book before you buy

The Secret Language of your Face by Chi an Kuei is a "step by step guide to the Chinese art of character reading" (back cover summary).

It's a fascinating and fun read but don't just think it will be good for an extra party game! The book tells us that the Chinese developed the art of face reading, known as Siang Mien, as an aid to medical and psychological diagnosis.

It seems that not only doctors could make use of it but also anyone who needed to "get to know" someone before they REALLY "got to know them".

The book tells you how to interprete someone's character by studying individual parts of the face like the nose, ears, eyes, chin and forehead. These are all dealt with in detailed, individual chapters, accompanied by lots of fantastic drawings to help you visualise the part of the face in question.

Then, the fun bit, in our opinion, starts with sections on "Flirting"...yes you can decide whether you are likely to be successful in your flirtations by reading someone's face first! You can even predict if someone is likely to be a great lover...the secret is in the ears!! And the final chapter even tells you who to best choose (or avoid) for a long term relationship based purely on the shape of your face.

The only thing we didn't like about the book was the "homework" at the end, which "tests" what you have learned via a series of questions for specific faces. You simply HAVE to read it all over again to get all the answers!
